Peek inside the Siena Model Home.
The Siena model home at Reed Marsh, Boone Homes’ new home community in Goochland, is underway. Our interior designer, Brittany, has been thoughtfully selecting pieces that will welcome you and allow you to imagine the lifestyle of Reed Marsh - a casual, yet polished look and feel. Her goal for each living space is to create a space that will promote conversation and interaction leading to lasting memories that you’ll cherish.
“While interior design principles, approach and style are universal, home staging is more theatrical in nature. You are creating the idea of a lifestyle. The ultimate goal is to create memorable moments that evoke emotion making a family want to spend their lives in the home. “ Brittany Shafer, Bear & Bee Staging
Brittany started Bear and Bee in 2017, after wanting to engage her creative side, call something her own, all while still being able to care for her growing family. Bear and Bee Staging specialize in vacant staging. Brittany loves working from a blank slate and creating an environment where someone can walk in and think “This is where I want to live.”
Let’s hear what her thought process is for the Siena Model at Reed Marsh:
What is the overall feel of the Reed Marsh model and what was your source of inspiration?
Casual and coastal. Nothing too stuffy or formal - polished yet accessible and laid-back.
Themes for each room:
- Owner’s Suite - a Stylish Retreat
- Guest Bedroom - Coastal boho vibe - A style geared toward an older child or teenage
- Kids Bedroom - Fun & adventurous! Double twin beds with summer camp inspiration
- Living Area - Calm and class. The fireplace is the focal point. An area for entertainment, relaxation and just hanging out with the family.
- Dining - A Classic semi-formal area for entertaining and dinners with family and friends.
- Breakfast Area - Cool and relaxed.
- Loft - Inspiring and invigorating! Used for work and play: set up to appeal to the young in age, as well as the young at heart. playing board games, watching a movie, doing homework
- 1st-floor guest suite: a space of tranquility and to escape.
Tell us about the materials, textures and color palettes you used in the Siena Model?
Create a foundation then add layers. This is true for color, as well as texture. Natural elements like wood, wicker, and leather paired with mixed metals add interest. While plush textiles, like rugs and pillows, give the rooms their warmth and soul.
A neutral color palette of oatmeal, taupe, cream, etc. can be a stager's best friend. It appeals to the masses and is versatile across different design styles and spaces. It provides a strong, monochromatic and grounded base that allows layering of complementary colors through the art and accessories.
The navy and the mossy green pairs well with the neutrals as well as the warmer terracotta color. All of these colors are inspired by natural elements. Contrast is also key. I make sure I use black somewhere in every room. It’s bold and can elevate a space by conveying a sense of drama. Pairing black with wood elements can instantly take something rustic and make it more modern.
What do you consider when furnishing living spaces?
While it’s important to provide a variety of seating options, I feel it’s even more important to create comfortable areas that promote conversation and interaction. I want it to be a home where you could throw a dinner party one night and a kids’ slumber party next…and you’d be equipped for both.
