Presidential Trail of Virginia

Each year, on the third Monday of February, individuals across the United States celebrate Presidents’ Day. Originally started to honor George Washington’s birthday on Feb. 22, the holiday is legally recognized as George Washington Day in the State of Virginia.

For residents of Virginia, the day serves as not only a day to recognize the first President of the United States, but is also an opportunity to remember the other seven Presidents born in Virginia: Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor and Woodrow Wilson. This Monday, celebrate the Presidents who have served by visiting the Presidential Trail of Virginia.

Covering the entire state, the Presidential Trail of Virginia features more than 25 Presidential Landmarks, including three near Richmond new homes. These Presidential landmarks include:

  • Executive or Governor’s Mansion Residence: Four future Presidents of the United States called the Virginia Governor’s Mansion home. Jefferon, Monroe and Tyler all served as governor, while William Henry Harrison lived in the home when his father was governor. The Governor’s Mansion is located in Capitol Square and is available for tours. To schedule a tour, call 804-371-8687 or visit
