What do you really want in your new Roanoke custom home?

Southwood-III-Model-099-300x225.jpg
If you tuned into Food Network’s “Challenge” on April 10, then you saw a Roanoke Valley rising star. The owners of Blue Collar Joe’s, a gourmet donut shop in Daleville, faced off with other donut gurus from around the country. Blue Collar Joe’s offers just about any kind of donut you can imagine including favorites in my household – bacon maple blueberry pancake and a classic chocolate and peanut turtle. Just like Joe’s, Boone Homes is a local family owned company that strives to provide our customers with the opportunity to choose exactly what they want in their Roanoke custom homes.

Energy Efficient New Home Construction

People are taking note of Boone Homes’ push to offer Roanoke energy efficient homes. Tim Garrison, VP of Sales and Marketing for Boone Homes, has been teaching classes on the topic of energy efficiency in new home construction to local real estate agents. The response has been great! Agents comment on how much they’ve learned and their colleagues are also requesting classes to be taught to their office or team. In addition to agents’ interest being peaked, a reporter from The Roanoke Times, Betsy Biesenback, wrote an article in the March 25 Spring Spaces Special Edition of Homes NOW on energy efficiency, with much emphasis on the Boone Homes journey towards our first ENERGY STAR® home qualification. Below are excerpts from this great article.

The Exciting World of Roof Trusses…No Really!

truss-image-gif2.gif
Roof trusses are one of those things that most of us don’t think much about. We know they’re there and we trust they will support the roof over our heads, but that is usually where our thinking stops. Trusses aren’t exactly the exciting topic that things like cabinets and countertops can be for buyers of new homes in Roanoke, but that’s all about to change. Boone Homes is leading the way for Roanoke new home builders by making raised heel roof trusses standard in all of our plans.

Long-Term Home Ownership has Value

DSCF0050-cropped-300x202.jpg
These days, homeowners are choosing to stay in their Richmond maintenance free homes longer; and, not only are buyers choosing to stay in their homes longer, but they also have a positive long-term view of homeownership according to the 2010 National Association of REALTORS® Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers survey. Typical sellers live in their homes an average of eight years before choosing to move on. However, the survey reports that first-time buyers plan to keep their homes for 10 years, and repeat buyers plan to stay in their property for 15 years. Why? Vicki Cox Golder, National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) 2010 President, asserts that long-term homeownership promotes stability and increases the value of the buyer’s investment.

Homeowners May Save Big During Tax Time

Like it or not, the deadline to complete your taxes is quickly approaching. For some (the early birds who finish and submit their taxes early) this is a time for joy; for others (those of you who procrastinate until the last second) it can be a time of anxiety. If the thought of doing your taxes makes you break out into cold sweats, consider this: Many homeowners save big during tax time. Owners of new homes in Roanoke are finding out that there are many financial benefits of homeownership, totally a savings of thousands of dollars over several years. Some of the sources of tax savings include deductions for mortgage interest and real estate taxes. Do you want to make the most of your tax deductions? Homeowners who choose to itemize their federal tax income deductions can deduct 100 percent of their mortgage interest payments.

Why is that house BLUE?!

Driving through the Hampshire community in Roanoke you may notice a strange sight…a blue house. Don’t worry; you won’t see hot pink or fluorescent yellow homes popping up. We at Boone Homes have not lost our minds and decided to try new extreme exteriors. What you are seeing is SIS™ board, the first step towards ENERGY STAR® qualification for the home. As the leading Roanoke custom home builder we spent many hours researching the best products based on building science to achieve an energy efficient home at the best value for our home owners. Dow’s SIS™ board ranked very high in our list of “must haves.”

Things just aren’t built the way they used to be…

Things just aren’t built the way they used to be. Have you had that thought recently as the latest gadget that you bought fell into pieces in your hands? How many toys did your children get for Christmas that are already broken? It seems when I was a child that they built toys to be indestructible, but toys just like cars and homes seem to be built with less pride and care in their craftsmanship these days. It’s sad, but it seems that most things are only built to last long enough to outlast the warranty – if it even has one.

Never Shovel Snow in Roanoke Again !

BoonehomesSnow1.jpg
After last winter’s record breaking snowfall across the state and the rare White Christmas we had this year, you must be thinking of all the snow ahead of us this winter. If you’re looking for Roanoke real estate, but don’t want the hassle of shoveling snow, then look no further than the Coach Homes of Southwood; Boone Homes’ No Maintenance Community in Roanoke. During our last snowfall in December, I drove through the Southwood community (of course after several hours of shoveling my own driveway and clearing snow off my car), and what did I see? All of the driveways were clear of snow and the sunshine was melting what little ice was left. These homeowners have realized their dream of never shoveling snow in Roanoke again.

Energy-Star-Color-Chart1.jpg
Boone Homes is proud to be an ENERGY STAR® New Home Construction Partner, offering Energy Efficient packages in both the Richmond and Roanoke real estate markets. Many are familiar with the blue ENERGY STAR® on household appliances like a refrigerator or dishwasher. People know that if they see the blue star the appliance will use less energy and therefore cost less to run than traditional appliances. But what does it all mean when it comes to new home construction? In a nutshell it means the same thing; ENERGY STAR® qualified homes will use less energy than a traditionally built house and therefore will result in lower energy bills. But that’s not all; an ENERGY STAR® house will be more comfortable and healthier for your family by controlling the air and moisture within your home.

Sometimes it is difficult to say no to someone when they invite you to an event, or ask a favor. Even if you really don’t want to, you feel an obligation to say yes. Come Home to a Boone Home in 2011 !

NewYears.jpg
Have you started writing your New Year’s Resolutions yet? Where will you be in 2011 ? What goals have you set ? Maybe they are the usual, lose some weight, quit smoking, eat healthier — we all have our own personal goals we want to meet in the coming year. Maybe the changes need to start at home. Is your current home meeting all the needs of you and your family ? Many of us are displeased with our homes and our living space, and it clutters up many areas of your lives. A new home can give you more space you need for that exercise room, or a new home office can give you time to do those projects at home, and keep you from staying at the office so late. A new home offers so many ways to improve your life, and your family’s. It could be just the change you need for the New Year !

What is Arts and Crafts?

Spec-Photos-Roanoke-679-300x225.jpg
When you are out driving around looking for Roanoke new homes, you might be completely surprised by a totally different style of home. It’s not the typical Colonials you expect to see in neighborhoods like Hampshire, The Groves or Roselawn Homes at Stone Manor. The style is Arts & Crafts, also known as Craftsman. It originated in the late 1800’s to show that simplicity could be just as beautiful as ornate, and it is not limited to just architecture but also encompasses interior design. The style has evolved over the years in different regions of the country. Boone Homes has made a commitment to not only offer Arts & Crafts style on the exterior, but to carry the style throughout the home.

Roanoke’s Grand New Homes

Living in Roanoke is not always stress free, but being able to pause and look at the serenity of the mountains can bring a moment of peace to an otherwise hectic day. One of my favorite things about Boone Homes’ low and no maintenance new home community, the Coach Homes of Southwood is that it is built in one of the most beautiful locations in Roanoke, so you can enjoy the breathtaking surroundings. The beautiful and elegant interior features luxury one floor living with beautiful hardwood floors, a designer kitchen with granite countertops, speedcook technology, and an open floorplan that extends the kitchen into a breakfast area and spacious family room, you will love all that this home has to offer. This home shows attention to detail from the beautiful windows that showcase the home, to the columns that add sophistication to the dining room. This home is elegance personified.
