If you’re ready for the wearing of the green and to celebrate the luck of the Irish, then you’re in the right place. The Richmond area is filled with tons of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations from traditional Irish feasts to parades and more. Here’s a quick round-up of some of the area’s best things to do throughout the region to celebrate everyone’s favorite Irish holiday.
On St. Patrick’s Day
On Thursday, March 17, lots of Irish restaurants will be having festivities like green beer, music and Irish specials all day long. Grab green attire and get ready to party! There are several parades, concerts and events going on in the Richmond area on St. Patrick’s Day.
St. Patrick’s Day is one of the best social holidays ever invented. At the annual Shamrock the Block celebration, close to 50,000 people will be rocking green apparel and green beer! There will be an array of awesome live music and a heap of Richmond’s tastiest food trucks. Also, more than a dozen local restaurants will contribute flavorful dishes to keep you energized throughout the festival.
Fatboys’, Spirits, Happy Endings, and the Bourbon Room will all be stops on the Fred Vegas Brew Tours bus this St. Patrick’s Day. A continuous circuit will be made between all locations from 10 a.m. with the last loop starting at 4 p.m. departing from Fatboys’ Smokehouse at 451 Jefferson Davis Hwy. Included in the $30 ticket is transportation all day, a T-shirt and St. Patrick’s Day Bar Crawl mug. The shuttle will leave on its first loop from Fatboys’. The shuttle will be making a stop at all locations at least once an hour so you won’t have to worry about following a pre-made schedule.
The Bottom is the place to be on St. Patrick’s Day! There will be five live DJ’s performing throughout the day and night at both Cha Chas Cantina and Society Social Club. It’s FREE to get in all day, party starts at 12:00 p.m., Green Themed Cocktails will be served, and VIP tables are available for booking. There will also be VIP “Get Luck’d Up” t-shirts. The purchase of these shirts will give you the ability to skip the line at both Cha Chas Cantina and Society Social Club, and will also get you drink specials on both beer and cocktails!
The Shenanigans Continues …
Keep the parties going with the Irish Festival in Church Hill, traditionally held the weekend after St. Patrick’s Day, on Saturday, March 24 and Sunday, March 25. The festival begins on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the St. Patrick’s Parade and continues with a 4-block street fair in front of St. Patrick’s Church on North 25th Street between Broad and Franklin Streets on Historic Church Hill. On Sunday, the HillTopper 5K race will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the Festival will close at 6:00 p.m.
In addition to great entertainment, there will be plenty of family fun, including children’s games and Irish-themed crafts. Food and refreshments will also be available with over thirty Irish vendors in attendance. Enjoy wonderful “Irish Lasagna” prepared by the Ladies of St. Patrick’s, “Fish and Chips” and other favorites provided by Rare Olde Times Irish Pub, Rosie Connolly’s and more.
