When you think of raising money for charity, you probably don’t think of mustaches. However, one local Richmond organization is out to change the “face” of fundraising. Mustaches 4 Kids (M4K) Richmond, a volunteer-run non-profit organization that aims to improve the lives of children, recently completed its 13thyear of growing mustaches to raise money for local children’s charities. This year, Boone Homes’ own Tim Parent decided to further his involvement with helping local children and grow his own mustache in support of the amazing cause.
Throughout the year, Tim volunteers with ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation, which is the largest and most comprehensive provider of support services for children with cancer and their families. This is an organization that is very near and dear to him, which is why he decided to get involved with M4K Richmond, as 100 percent of M4K Richmond’s proceeds go directly to ASK and an assortment of other local children’s charities.
Within his first week of fundraising, Tim exceeded his goal and by the end of his mustache-growing journey, he raised a total of $5,000. He was even named Rookie of the Year for his fundraising efforts and commitment to the cause! Growing a mustache for an entire month is hard work; so to celebrate the end of Growing Season, M4K Richmond held a competition called the Stache Bash where only one can be declared the “sweetest” of them all. Tim wasn’t given the honor of sweetest stache, but we think it still looked great, especially since it helped a lot of children and their families get much-needed care and support.
“I want to thank everyone for their extreme generosity!” said Tim Parent, Executive Vice President of Boone Homes. “You all have made such a difference for these children this year. Because of you, children will have meals, beds to sleep in, needed therapy sessions, warm houses this winter, and their parents will be able to pay necessary bills they were behind on. The support you gave these children and families this year makes me unbelievably proud, and I can’t even begin to send enough thanks your way.”
Since its founding in 2003, M4K Richmond has raised more than $350,000 to benefit local charities such as ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation, The Children’s Hospital Foundation, Greater Richmond SCAN, The Founders Center of Commonwealth Autism and Feedmore.
