Three Ways to Celebrate Veterans Day 2013 near Richmond New Homes

For almost a century, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month has been a day of recognition for those who have served our country. That special day, now known as Veterans Day, will be celebrated this Monday, Nov. 11.

For residents of Richmond new homes, there are several ways to honor those who have served during a war and to recognize those who are currently serving.

Virginia War Memorial – Commonwealth Veterans Day Ceremony

On Monday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to 11.a.m., the Virginia War Memorial along with the American Legion, 11th District, will host a Veterans Day Ceremony. This free event will be held rain or shine in the Heilman Amphitheater. At the conclusion of the ceremony, TAPS will be played as we honor all veterans who served our country and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Vietnam War Foundation & Museum

In honor of Veterans Day, the Vietnam War Foundation & Museum will host open houses on Sunday, Nov. 10 from noon to 4 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition to the open houses, a Memorial Brick Dedication Ceremony will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Ceremony will commemorate the service of 27, now deceased, veterans from the Earlysville Champ Lawson Jr VWF Post 2044. Hollywood Cemetery

Hollywood Cemetary is the final resting place for more than 18,000 Confederate soldiers, as well as Confederate President Jefferson Davis and President James Monroe, who served in the Revolutionary War. Open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Hollywood Cemetery is a great opportunity for residents to pay their respects to those that have fallen.

If you can’t make it to the Virginia War Memorial, Vietnam War Foundation & Museum or the Hollywood Cemetery on Monday, just remember to pause for a moment at 11 a.m. and say thanks to those who have protected and continue to protect our freedom.

To all of our local veterans, Boone Homes would like to say thank you!
