Richmond has been the sight of many films throughout Hollywood and there is a reason for its popularity, historic preservation. Over the year the Historic Richmond Foundation has managed to save and rehab several of Richmond’s historic buildings making it a beautiful shooting location for film and television. From Hannibal to the current Best Picture nominee, Lincoln, many producers have chosen to shoot big budget films near Richmond neighborhoods. This Thursday, January 31, 2013, the Historic Richmond Foundation invites Richmond residents to learn more about Hollywood in Richmond by attending “Walk in the Footsteps of Spielberg and Lincoln.”
During this presentation, Andy Edmunds, Director of the Virginia Film Office, will discuss how historic preservation plays a vital role in the success of the Virginia film industry. Edmunds will share his stories of working with Spielberg, and how Richmond provides an authentic, historic background for many films.
As a part of the Winter Lecture Series, this fascinating discussion will take place at St. Catherine’s Middle School Auditorium, located in the basement of Hannah Washington Hall. The lecture will begin at 6:00 p.m., with conversation, wine and cheese following the presentation from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Admission to this event is $30.
