The Jefferson Hotel has been a Richmond institution since 1895. It is known for being the grandest hotel in Richmond and it certainly lives up to that expectation. Located within this hotel is the equally grand restaurant, Lemaire. If you live in the Boone Homes Wescott at Grey Oaks neighborhood, you can be dining at this special restaurant in 25 minutes.
Lemaire has always been known for its wonderful gourmet food but for some it may have been a little too formal. The restaurant has recently reinvented itself and while maintaining its high quality food it has made some changes to its menu and dining area that make it more accessible to all. No longer is it necessary to make a reservation. You can simply slip in whenever convenient and sit at their much expanded bar and lounge area and enjoy one of their unique cocktails and order one (or many) of their delicious small plate offerings.
Lemaire prides itself on incorporating the farm-to-table philosophy and using many locally grown ingredients. One of their best offerings of local ingredients is their oysters. The oysters on their menu come from the company Rappahannock River Oysters. Side note, in no way am I biased due to the fact that my son and nephew are the owners of this company…Anyway, Lemaire features RRO’s oysters which are harvested using the sustainable aquaculture method from the Rappahannock and other locations around the Chesapeake Bay. They are served corn meal crusted or on the half shell and are some of the freshest and tastiest oysters you’ll ever experience. RRO’s oysters are served at many of the top restaurants around the country and they are pleased to include Lemaire on that list.
For those days that you are craving oysters but don’t want to leave your home (and if you have a Richmond or Roanoke Boone Homes dining room that might be more often than not), RRO’s wide variety of oysters and clams are available on-line for purchase and can be delivered right to your door.
Of course Lemaire still offers an array of mouth watering main courses. An interesting addition to this line-up is a hamburger. If you’ve ever been to Lemaire in the past you would never expect to find this item on the menu. Let me be the first to tell you though, this is no run of the mill hamburger. The Barnyard Burger, as it’s called, is topped with bacon, a sunny-side up egg, cheddar cheese and a mouth-watering foie gras sauce. Simply put it is delicious.
The Lemaire restaurant is a Richmond destination and a must do experience for those who have never been and a must do again experience for those who have not been recently. Don’t just take my word for it; Lemaire was recently named in the top 50 restaurants in the country by Esquire magazine.
